5 new deadly coronavirus mutations were detected
British doctors recently detected 5 new coronavirus mutations. They increase the probability of death up to 13 times, according to scientists. The authors of the research highlighted, that these rare mutations lead to the loss of body’s ability to rule the immune and stress reaction on the infection.
This discovery was made by the group of specialists from the Laboratory of Molecular Biology at the British Council for Medical Research. Specialists studied the data collected by the UK BioBank project. The participants of the study were thoroughly examined and then donated their DNA. Scientists suggested that some participants may be infected with COVID-19. After that, almost 6 thousand of UK BioBank were tested on coronavirus. After that, they studied the COVID-19 death rate in the UK.
It turned out that 1.4 thousand of study participants recovered from COVID-19, 193 of the infected deceased. So that scientists compared combinations of small mutations in recovered participants and deceased ones. Aa the result, they were able to detect genetic differences which may increase the risk of death from COVID-19.
