Scientists want WHO to admit that coronavirus transmits by air
Among 240 scientists from 32 countries demand WHO to admit, that coronavirus is transmitted by air. The researchers highlight that small drops in the air are the main factor of COVID-19 transmission. Scientists insist that the virus is transmitted by the air particles, restrained in rooms. Still, WHO believes that the main reason is large drops from the respiratory tract.
“In a couple of months, we declared that airborne transmission is possible, but it hasn’t been proved by convincing evidence. We have serious debates on this issue”, says Benedetta Allegranzi, Technical Director for Infection Control at WHO.
Address of 239 scientists to WHO may be published in scientific magazine. If the airborne transmission is confirmed, new restrictions will be introduced, in particular – obligatory wearing of masks in rooms at a social distancing, the use of UV light and special masks for health workers.
