Coronavirus has 6 various strains which now spread throughout the world
The analysis of more than 10 thousand coronavirus samples from different regions showed that now 6 strains are spreading throughout the world.
“We’ve created the algorithm which can easily sequence and group complete genomes of the causative agents of quickly spreading epidemic. Using this method, we have studied 10,4 thousand SARS-CoV-2 strains and found 6 strains of this virus” – said scientists.
From the first days of the outbreak of coronavirus infection, scientists try to understand how its causative evolves. Now it is known that it mutates as quickly as the influenza. But scientists don’t know how these mutations influence on its infectiousness and other properties.
In March, Chinese scientists said that the virus could divide in two subtypes, S and L, which are distinguished by the severity of symptoms and the speed of spread. However, other scientists doubted this, as the believe the changes in virus could be caused by accidental processes and not by real distinctions in SARS-CoV-2 subtypes. In May, British and Australian scientists urged that there are only 3 types of virus.
