WHO warns of the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19
It’s too early to remove the restriction introduced because of coronavirus, the weakening of quarantine measures threatens to increase morbidity and mortality, the expert said.
The second wave of coronavirus infection can follow around the world after the end of the first, this opinion is the representative of the World Health Organization.
“Wherever the first wave has passed, we warn that the second is possible. It is important that the population understands that the danger has not passed.”
According to the expert, due to such a risk it is too early to remove the restriction introduced due to coronavirus, the weakening of quarantine measures threatens to increase morbidity and mortality.
Earlier, the director of the WHO European Bureau, Hans Kluge, announced the possibility of a “second outbreak”: according to him, European countries should prepare for the second wave, since 32 out of 43 states announced the easing of restrictive measures, and it could come in the fall.
WHO experts suggest that the virus may not disappear anywhere, then humanity will have to put up with its existence, since there is currently no vaccine or treatment for it.
According to Johns Hopkins University, on the morning of May 21, the number of people infected with coronavirus is growing: COVID-19 was detected in 4,996,472 people, the number of deaths was 328,115. The record number of people infected in the world was recorded over the last day: the figure was 106,000 – this highest number since pandemic.
