What is known about Cambridge coronavirus vaccine?
The group of scientists published the study on the new experimental coronavirus vaccine.
During the recent study, two vaccine doses induced robust immune responses and were able to rapidly block the coronavirus in the upper and lower airways of rhesus monkeys exposed to SARS-CoV-2.
The injections were made at intervals of 28 days. The vaccinated monkeys had high level of antibodies, which is used by COVID-19 to attach and get into the cell.
Four weeks after the second injection, all monkeys were infected with coronavirus. It is interesting, that 7 out of 8 vaccinated monkeys didn’t have coronavirus.
At the same time, the virus was actively multiplied in animals from control group (they got saline).
Scientists believe that there can’t be any rush in vaccination. If we are talking about the vaccine that passed all the tests, we need to understand that it is not clinical trial. Scientists have to study the cure thoroughly, as the vaccine is not the drug, it is protection which should not harm.
