Scientists found an effective way to neutralize coronavirus in 25 seconds

Scientists at Boston University’s National Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, together with Signify, conducted a study, which had to confirm or deny the effectiveness of UV light on the neutralization of the SARS-CoV-2, which is a pathogen of COVID-19. Signify says that the coronavirus was eliminated in 25 seconds after using UV lamp.  

From the beginning of the pandemic, doctors Anthony Griffiths, an assistant professor of microbiology at the University of Boston School of Medicine, and his team were developing special tools for scientific progress support in this sphere. During this research they processed material, infected with viruses, with UV light and then estimated the ability of virus to inactivation in different conditions.

The team applied a dose of 5 mJ per square centimeter and conclude that the transmission of virus is reduced by 99% in 6 seconds, under such conditions. So, based on this data, they determined that the virus is completely eliminated in 25 seconds, at a dosage of 22 mJ per square centimeter.

But still, it is worth to note that during the experiment they used a special UV lamp. Huge UV doses may be dangerous for health, if special protection isn’t used.
