WHO have updated the guidelines for wearing protective masks

WHO has published updated guidelines for the use of masks.

This guideline is based on the new facts and provide the updated recommendations on who should wear a mask, when should it be worn, and why should it be done – said the head of WHO.

At the same time, he recalled that the mask couldn’t fully protect from COVID-19, as they are useful only as a part of complex approach to combat the infection. Specialists recall that people with COVID-19 symptoms should stay at home and consult a doctor. The infected and their contacts have to be isolated.

Previously, WHO recommended to infected and the contacts to wear masks if there is a necessity to leave the house, and and to those, who take care of infected ones.

In the areas with unfavorable epidemiological situation, WHO recommends all hospital personnel. In the areas with high level of virus transmission, it is recommended to wear mask in the situation, where physical distance is impossible, especially to those, who is 60 or more.

WHO also recommends the authorities to encourage masks wearing in the places, where transmission of the virus is widespread and physical distance is impossible, for example public transport, shops, or in other limited or crowded places.
