Coronavirus-detecting mask created in the USA

In the United States, work is underway to create a medical mask with an integrated sensor that can detect coronavirus.

Scientists from Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are engaged in its development.

It is curious that MIT experts developed sensors for detecting the Ebola virus back in 2014, and two years later, with the participation of colleagues from Harvard, they adapted their technology to detect Zika virus.

Testing sensors designed to detect coronavirus in saliva began immediately after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the scientists, the mask will be equipped with a fluorescent indicator that signals the presence of a coronavirus in a person when he coughs or sneezes.

According to the publication, such masks can be a cheap alternative to the existing methods for detecting COVID-19. For example, Zika virus detection devices produce results in two to three hours. At the same time, the cost of such a sensor in 2016 was only $ 20.

Earlier it became known that the Chinese laboratory is developing a medicine that, according to experts, can stop the coronavirus pandemic. The drug, which is being tested by scientists from Peking University, can not only reduce the recovery time for infected people, but even provide short-term immunity from the virus.
