US authorities allow clinical trials of a second coronavirus vaccine
US federal authorities have granted permission to begin clinical trials of a second new type of coronavirus vaccine. This was announced at a briefing for journalists in the White House by United States President Donald Trump.
“Today, the second company announced that the Food and Drug Administration [under the US Department of Health and Human Services] has allowed clinical trials of its vaccine [from the new coronavirus] to begin clinical trials,” the American leader said. He did not specify which particular company was in question. At the same time, Trump recalled that earlier Johnson & Johnson received permission to test a similar vaccine.
In addition, Trump noted that 10 “therapeutic agents” for the treatment of the disease caused by the new coronavirus are currently being tested in the United States. “This will be a fairly quick process <…>”, the head of the American administration promised. Finally, he added, another 15 such drugs are in preparation for clinical trials.
According to the latest data, around 1.3 million people have been infected with the coronavirus in the world, and about 70 thousand deaths have been recorded. According to information from Johns Hopkins American University, more than 362 thousand cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in the United States, more than 10 thousand people died.
